Trove, Levenshulme

Trove is a delightful café and bakery is the increasingly hip Levenshulme. Having for a short while been considered by some as ‘woefully downtrodden’, “Levy”, as the locals like to call it, is rapidly becoming a haven for hipsters. This is why fellow bloggers and bright, young, trendy things Manchester Foodies & Good Gobble have made it their home.

When passing I’ll often stop by for a loaf of their freshly baked bread and, if time allows, a sandwich, juice and coffee. Unless I am visiting the fab Levy Market (where Trove also run a stall), it’s rare that I am over that way in the mornings.

I have discovered however that they do a decent breakfast; particularly their divine Black Pudding Potato Cakes which come with top quality thick cut bacon, fried egg, tomato chutney and, of course, a slice of Trove’s very own toasted bread.

Sandwiches include such delights as Smoked Mackerel with wasabi & lettuce in malted Trove bread, served with a little fruity cous cous. There is always an varied selection of fillings but its the Trove bread which makes the sandwiches special.

I’m not the world’s biggest fan of cake (that would be Dolly Bakes) but Trove always have an interesting selection. In honour of “Dolly”, I selected a ‘bundt’ (it’s her favourite, not Cockney rhyming slang) – an Orange Blossom & Rose Water Bundt. As far as cakes go, it was a good piece of cake.

Until I become young and trendy again and up sticks to Levy myself, I’ll have to make do with occasionally popping in when passing… let’s hope I have reason to pass more often. Fantastic place, fantastic people.

  1. Levenshulme is the place to be, it's boho with an edge and hip without too many hipsters. Good food and plenty of cool places and nice people :)
