Galvin La Chapelle, London

To kick off the year, my wife and I enjoyed a lunch at the Galvin brothers’ Michelin starred Galvin at Windows (see here). We enjoyed the food and service. So when we saw Jeff’s and Chris’ second one starred restaurant Galvin La Chapelle was situated a stone’s throw from where we were staying in Shoreditch / Spitalfields, we had to give it a whirl.

We took advantage of their competitive Prix Fixe, 3 course £29, dinner menu. We found the food delicious, well balanced and with precise cooking; the service good and the décor and atmosphere of the magnificent Grade II listed St Botolph's Hall equally impressive.

What Michelin say, ‘The Victorian splendour of St Botolph's Hall, with its vaulted ceiling, arched windows and marble pillars, lends itself perfectly to its role as a glamorous restaurant. The food is bourgeois French with a sophisticated edge and is bound to satisfy.

Pressed ham hock, foie gras & red onion marmalade

Grilled Cornish mackerel, shaved fennel & crème fraiche

Pavé of cod, curried Puy lentils, salsify & cauliflower velouté

Roast rump of lamb, pomme mousseline, girolles & purple sprouting broccoli

Selles-sur-Cher, raisin pureé & walnuts

Victoria plum & frangipane tarte, raspberry sorbet

Sorry about the quality of the photos; lighting was perfect for a romantic meal out but no so good for taking pictures.
