Chef
Isaac McHale and front of house duo Daniel Willis and Johnny Smith (with their Young
Turk’s colleagues James Lowe and Ben Greeno) have been at the forefront of all
that is hip and happening foodwise in London for quite some time now.
I last got to taste
their food at The Ten Bells (see here) and when, in
March, I saw that they’ve opened at the Shoreditch Town Hall,
I was naturally keen to revisit.
It
was circa 95/96, for a hippiesque Whirl-Y-Gig club night that I last visited
Shoreditch Town Hall. Times have changed - the hippies have moved out and the
hipsters are most definitely in… We ate:
English
Asparagus, Black Sesame & Gochuchang
The signature dish of 'Buttermilk
Chicken & Pine Salt' is something special.
Wild
Salmon & Horseradish on Rye
Scottish
Blood Pudding, Green Beans, Peach & Mustard Sauce
Onion,
Westcombe Cheddar Sauce & Summer Truffle
Wild
Irish Char, Tomatoes, Brown Butter & Dill
Slow
Roast Lincolnshire Chicken, Peas, Girolles & Garlic Scape, Tarragon Purée,
Thyme Jus and Italian Summer Truffle.
Chicken bits on sticks.
Baked
Elderflower Custard & Raspberries
Prune
Ice Cream, Tea Soaked Prune, Rosemary Sorbet & Walnut Cake Crumbs
Verdict: Loved
it!
