Just before Christmas we popped to Brighton to
celebrate my eldest stepdaughter’s 30th Birthday (we enjoyed a
lovely Sunday lunch at The Gingerman).
The next day, the plan was for my wife and I to return to Manchester via lunch at Cambridge’s Michelin starred Alimentum
by Chef Patron, Mark
Poynton.
Great and nibble @ Alimentum |
The original plan was for us to have the ‘Taste of Alimentum’
tasting menu. However, a curve ball came when my stepson (visiting from
Singapore to see his little sis on her big day) informed us that he’d be running
a “pop-up” version of his The Cufflink Club at London’s
Edition Hotel. It’d mean a lot of driving - Brighton to Cambridge to
London to Manchester - but if we just had the set menu at Alimentum,
it was doable. So that’s what we did!
Here’s what we ate:
Lamb – breast, haggis, swede & sage
Mussel – chowder, potato, leek & sweetcorn
Blade of Beef – braised beef, potato, baby leek &
mushroom
Sea Bream – potato, fennel, brown shrimp & pesto
Chocolate – chocolate mousse & blood orange
Carrot & Ginger – cake, white chocolate & lemon
The Lamb breast, haggis, swede & sage dish has
already featured on this blog on my Dishes
of the Year 2015 post. We will be
back for the 'Taste of Alimentum' another time.
