Tapeo & Wine, Manchester

Joining Lunya, La Bandera, El Gato Negro, Ibérica, Bar San Juan, El Rincon de Rafa, Evuna, (amongst others), Tapeo and Wine is one of the newest of Manchester’s many Spanish restaurants… each one has its charms but, based on my visit, Tapeo has earned its place amongst my faves.

Highlights included the Conejo with its spicy hot oil and the Berenjenas which are always a favourite when visiting my parents in Andalucia. The only real weak dish was the Merluza which as I found the sauce a little insipid.

Almendras Fritas – Marcona Almonds sautéed with EVOO & Sea Salt

Aceitunas – Campo real Olives

Pan con Tomate – Toasted Bread with rubbed Tomato, Garlic and EVOO

Ensalada de Tomate y Cebolla – Beef Tomato & White Sweet Onion Salad

Berenjena Frita – Aubergine Crisps with Glaze of PX and Honey

Cogollos con Ventresca – Baby Gem Lettuce Salad with Bonito Tuna Belly

Merluza en Salsa Verde – Hake in a Rich Garlic and Parsley Sauce

Conejo al Ajillo – Fried Rabbit with Garlic & Spring Onions

Churros con Chocolate – Churros with Spanish Thick Chocolate

Torrija al Vino – Torrija in a Sweet Rose Wine reduction
